I just wanted to second the comments about taking test scores with a grain of salt.
  • IB curriculum and fluency in Spanish!Parent 02/26/2016
I have 2 children currently in the Spanish School, and my oldest finished 5th grade there last year. I've been so pleased. I really like the challenging IB curriculum that teaches the kids to inquire, explore, and learn. A school that encourages curiosity is great! The Spanish immersion has also ... More

I have two kids at the Spanish School and I am so pleased with the excellent education they are receiving at SLLIS! The teachers are incredibily dedicated and my kids are so happy to come to school everyday. This school provides such a wonderful opportunity for all kids to learn a second language.

I have 2 children in the school and have been so impressed by the teachers and staff. Love that my kids are fluent in Spanish this early in life and prepared for real world success in the future.
  • Fantastic opportunityParent 05/12/2015
Instead of sending my daughter to our county district school, which is a fine school, we instead chose to send her to SLLIS for kindergarten. She is now in first grade, and she can already speak so much better than I can after 8 years of taking Spanish classes in school. I'm absolutely pleased with the... More
  • Amazing opportunity for our kidsParent 05/12/2015
Like many families we initially chose The Spanish School for the language immersion aspect. We have been more than happy with the language development of our children in both English and Spanish but have also been highly impressed with what the IB program offers the students. The inquiry based learning... More
  • Great school that is still developingParent 05/11/2015
We have been at the Spanish school almost from the beginning (6 years ago) and have been very pleased over all. As a public charter school, it faces unique budget challenges and each year has seen its share of obstacles to overcome. However, the benefits - bilingualism, international baccalaureate curriculum... More
  • Happy after two yearsParent 05/11/2015
My daughter is in first grade and loves the school and her teacher. Homework is done as packets (in English) and turned in later in the week. We also love that she will learn Latin in her later years. I can't imagine sending her to another school. This may not be the right environment for you/your child... More
  • Amazing opportunity in an English dominant state!Parent 09/11/2014
Overall, average state test scores don't tell you everything about a school! The opportunities and possibilities to become multilingual; make friendships across race, ethnicity, and income level; interact daily with teachers and administrators from across the globe; all while learning about the world... • Two kids in and one more to followParent 09/05/2014
After touring Kennard, Mallinkrodt, City Garden, Mann School, Soulard School, and others, we chose SLLIS - Spanish. It's a newer school so the systems and structures inherited by SLPS schools are limited. There are four classes per grade so it is larger, by private school standards. But, our children... More

We toured and did orientation at this school and really liked it. Although after a difficult decision we choose another school in the city only because our kids are already bilingual and we plan on continuing it in our home. But I thought it important to note that any immersion school's test scores... More
